LG dryers display error codes on the control panel when the built-in diagnostic system detects a problem. These codes are a roadmap --- they tell you precisely what the dryer detected, helping you or your technician get to the fix faster. Here's what the most common LG dryer error codes mean.
Before Checking Codes: Try a Reset
Many LG dryer error codes can be cleared with a power reset. Hold the Power button for 5 seconds, or unplug the dryer from the wall for 60 seconds and restore power. If the code clears and doesn't return, it was a transient fault. If it comes back, proceed with diagnosis.
Common LG Dryer Error Codes
d80 / d90 / d95 --- Exhaust Restriction
These codes indicate the exhaust duct is 80%, 90%, or 95% blocked respectively. This is the most common LG dryer code family and is entirely caused by vent restriction --- not by a part failure.
Fix: clean the lint screen, inspect the duct for kinks or crushing, and have the full duct professionally cleaned. The d95 code means the vent is nearly completely blocked and poses a fire risk.
E13 --- Exhaust Sensor Error
The exhaust thermistor has failed or is reading outside normal range. The dryer may not control temperature correctly. Thermistor replacement is a straightforward repair.
CL --- Child Lock Active
This is not an error --- it means the Child Lock feature has been activated. The panel won't respond to button presses while CL is shown. To deactivate, press and hold the Child Lock button (varies by model --- check your manual) for 3 seconds.
tE1 / tE2 / tE3 --- Thermistor Errors
These codes indicate temperature sensor faults at different locations within the dryer. tE1 typically relates to the inlet thermistor, tE2 to the outlet, and tE3 to a third sensor. The affected thermistor needs to be tested for continuity and replaced if faulty.
nP --- No Power to Gas Valve
Found on gas models, this code indicates the gas valve solenoid coils are not receiving power or have failed. The burner won't ignite and no heat will be produced. Gas valve coil replacement is a common and affordable repair.
PS --- Power Supply Error
The dryer is detecting abnormal voltage. Confirm the dryer is plugged directly into a wall outlet (not an extension cord). Check that the dedicated circuit breaker is fully on. If voltage is normal but the code persists, the control board may need inspection.
HS --- Humidity Sensor Error
The moisture sensor inside the drum is not working correctly. Clean the sensor bars with rubbing alcohol first --- residue from dryer sheets is a frequent cause. If the code persists after cleaning, the sensor circuit needs testing.
FE --- Fan Error
The blower fan motor has a fault. The fan is critical for moving air through the dryer --- without it, heat builds up rapidly and the thermal fuse will trip. Fan motor replacement is required.
SE --- Sensor Error (Drum Speed)
The drum rotation sensor is not detecting the drum spinning correctly. This can indicate a failed belt, a seized drum bearing, or a faulty sensor. Inspect the drive belt first --- it's the most common cause.
