5 Series ranges (VGIC open burner, VGR sealed burner, VDR dual fuel)
The classic Viking look, in 30, 36, 48 and 60-inch widths. Open-burner VGIC ranges let spills fall through to a tray under the burners; sealed-burner VGR ranges keep them on top. Both use the SureSpark ignition system, which re-lights a burner that goes out, and the VariSimmer low setting. The VDR puts a gas top over an electric oven, so the oven side is elements and a control board.
7 Series ranges, rangetops and French-Door ovens
Viking's top line: 36 and 48-inch ranges, plus rangetops, with 23,000 BTU Elevation burners adapted from Viking's commercial line, and the Gourmet-Glo infrared broiler in the oven. The 7 Series also holds the French-Door wall ovens, single and double, whose two doors swing open sideways instead of dropping down, so the hinge hardware is nothing like a normal oven's.
3 Series
Viking's entry line: 30-inch freestanding ranges in gas, dual fuel, electric and induction, most with self-cleaning ovens, plus 3 Series wall ovens, dishwashers and cabinet-depth freestanding French-door refrigerators sized for a standard cutout.
Tuscany
Viking's Italian-styled line, in 36, 48 and 66-inch widths, with gas burners, a machined steel griddle plate or induction elements on top and a stainless steel oven cavity. The ranges are dual fuel, so oven complaints come down to elements, the sensor and the control rather than gas parts.
Built-in, integrated and freestanding refrigeration
36, 42 and 48-inch built-in side-by-sides and bottom-freezers, integrated units, freestanding French-door refrigerators, and undercounter refrigerators, wine cellars and ice machines. Viking's own warranty covers the sealed system (compressor, evaporator, condenser, tubing) for six years, separately from everything else, and everything else is what usually fails.
Older Viking Professional ranges and wall ovens
The Viking Professional badge went on the ranges and built-in ovens sold before the numbered series, and plenty are still cooking. They share the same bones as the 5 Series: a spark module and electrodes for the top, a hot-surface igniter and gas valve for each gas oven, a control board on the electric ovens, and a heavy drop-down door on hinges that carry the load every time it opens.

Burners click and click but never light
Each burner has a spark electrode, and one spark module fires several of them. Because SureSpark re-lights a burner the moment it goes out, a cracked electrode, a wet one after a boil-over, or a tired module can keep the whole top clicking. On a call for appliance repair in Oakton, several burners on a Viking range would not light and the igniters clicked over and over; our technician found one failed spark module behind all of them. One part, several dead burners.

Burners spark fine but no gas comes
Then the spark is not the problem, the valve is. Each burner has its own gas valve behind the knob that meters gas to that burner, and on older Viking Professional ranges they wear out. A 36-inch Viking Professional gas range in Falls Church had burners that would not light, and the cause was a failed gas valve, not the ignition.

Oven will not heat, or crawls up to temperature
On a Viking gas oven the bake burner lights from a hot-surface igniter that has to glow hot enough before the oven's gas valve opens. As it ages it still glows but never gets there, so the oven stays cold or takes an age to reach the setting. On a 48-inch two-oven range each cavity has its own igniter and valve, which is why one oven can die while the other keeps cooking. On dual fuel, electric and Tuscany models the same symptom points at the bake element, the temperature sensor or the control board instead.

Wall oven dead, or showing an error code on the controls
Viking's current wall ovens are electric, and the control board is what tells the oven to call for heat, runs the convection fan and reads the sensor. When it goes, the oven stays cold no matter what you set, or the display throws a code. Viking codes are model-specific, so read us the exact code and the model number when you call; it tells our technician what to check first.

Heavy oven door sags or will not close flush
Viking oven doors are heavy, and the hinges and springs take that weight every time the door drops. When the door stops sitting flush the seal cannot do its job, heat leaks out the top, and the oven runs long and bakes unevenly. Hinges are replaced as a pair so the door hangs straight; on a French-Door oven the side-hinged doors have their own linkage that keeps both moving together.

Refrigerator door dropped, sagging or come loose on an older built-in
Viking's recall page lists two door recalls on built-in refrigerators. One covers 48-inch side-by-sides made before March 2005 and 36-inch bottom-freezers made before April 2006, where the top hinge screws could shear and the door came off. The other covers 36-inch bottom-freezers made from November 2005 to August 2012, where a weld on the hinge pin could break with the same result. Both are repaired free by Viking. If your door drops or swings oddly, read the serial off the label on the ceiling inside the fridge and check it on Viking's page before you pay anyone.

Built-in fridge warm while the freezer holds, or the reverse
Most cooling complaints on a Viking built-in are not the compressor. A failed evaporator fan, an evaporator iced over from a defrost fault, or a torn door gasket lets one side warm up while the other stays cold. The sealed system is the least likely cause, and Viking's own warranty treating it separately for six years tells you the maker sees it the same way.

Dishwasher stops mid-cycle, will not heat, or smells of hot plastic
Viking 24-inch Model 200, 325 and 450 dishwashers built before April 1, 2011 had an electrical connector to the heater that could fail and overheat; Viking recalled them and repairs them free. Any Viking dishwasher that trips a breaker, stops heating or smells hot should be switched off at the breaker and checked against the serial plate at the left side of the door opening. Past that, the usual parts are the wash pump, the fill valve and the control.

Parts

Viking parts ship through Middleby Residential, the maker's own parts operation, so parts for current and recent models are orderable. What the order needs is the full model and serial number off the tag: for refrigerator repair it is on the ceiling inside the fresh-food section, for dishwasher repair it is on the plate at the left side of the door opening. Have the numbers or a photo of the tag ready when you book. Common parts are on the truck; anything specific to one series, like a control board or a hinge assembly, is ordered and our technician comes back to fit it. Every repair carries a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty.

Spark or gas: what a dead Viking burner tells you

Nearly every Viking gas top works the same way, so gas stove repair on one starts from the same three parts: a spark electrode at each burner, one spark module firing several of them, and a gas valve behind each knob. SureSpark re-sparks the moment a burner goes out, which is why one boil-over can leave the whole top clicking.

Notice which burners are affected and whether they click at all. Several burners dead at once points at the shared module; one burner sparking with no flame points at that burner's valve or a blocked port. On open-burner VGIC ranges spills drop through to the tray underneath, so the electrodes and ports need a proper clean before any part is blamed; on sealed-burner VGR ranges the cap and head lift off for the same clean. The oven is a separate system, and on a 48-inch two-oven range each cavity has its own igniter and gas valve.

Recalls to check before you pay for a repair

Viking has run several recalls, and every one is repaired free by Viking through its own servicers, so it is worth five minutes on Viking's recall page before you book a paid visit.

Gas ranges: VGIC, VGCC and VGSC freestanding ranges built from July 2007 to June 2014 could turn their oven on by themselves. 5 Series VGR and VGIC ranges built between August 10 and December 1, 2021 had a gas tubing recall. Dual fuel VDR ranges were not part of either.

Dishwashers: 24-inch Model 200, 325 and 450 units built before April 1, 2011 were recalled over a heater connector that could fail and start a fire.

Refrigerators: 42 and 48-inch built-in side-by-sides with a dispenser built between October 2012 and May 2013 had wiring harness connectors that could short, plus the two door-hinge recalls described above.

The serial number decides it. On a fridge the label is on the ceiling inside; on a dishwasher it is on the plate at the left side of the door opening. If your Viking is covered, Viking sends its own servicer at no cost. If it is not, or the fault is something else, call us and our technician takes it from there.

What to have ready when you call

The model and serial number, or a photo of the tag. The symptom in plain words: which burners, which oven, how long it takes, and the exact code on the display if there is one. If you smell gas, close the shut-off valve behind the range, open a window and call your gas utility first; we come after that.

My Viking burners click nonstop even when they are off. What is it?

Usually moisture or grease on a spark electrode, or a spark module that has failed and keeps firing. Dry the top and give it an hour. If it keeps clicking, switch the range off at the breaker and call; a top that sparks on its own is not something to live with.

The oven on my Viking takes forever to heat. Do I need a new range?

Almost never. On a gas oven it is usually the hot-surface igniter, which weakens with age and takes too long to open the gas valve. On a dual fuel, electric or Tuscany oven it is the bake element or the temperature sensor. All of them are replaceable parts.

Can you fix a Viking refrigerator door that has dropped or come loose?

Check the recall first. Viking repairs the doors free on certain built-in 48-inch side-by-sides and 36-inch bottom-freezers because they could detach; the serial label is on the ceiling inside the fridge. If yours is not covered, a hinge or pivot-plate replacement is a normal repair for us, with a 90-day warranty on the work.
