Samsung lines we see most

Know your Samsung

  • Bespoke

Samsung's Bespoke line covers refrigerators, ranges, microwaves and dishwashers built to match, and washers in colors like Brushed Navy and Forest Green. The color is a finish, not a model. When you call, read us the model number from the sticker inside the appliance, not the color name, so we look up the right parts.

  • Family Hub refrigerators

Family Hub is the refrigerator with a touchscreen in the door. The screen and its board are one system and the cooling is another. A dark or frozen screen on a cold fridge is a screen problem. A working screen on a warm fridge is a cooling problem, and that is the one that matters for your food.

  • French door refrigerators (RF23, RF28 and similar)

On many of Samsung's three- and four-door French door fridges the ice maker sits up in the fresh-food section, in the top corner, not in the freezer. It frosts over, the water at the door slows to a trickle, and the fan behind it starts to grind. That design was the subject of a class-action lawsuit. The fix runs from a full thaw and resealing to a new ice maker.

  • Slide-in electric ranges with front knobs (2013 to 2024)

Samsung's slide-in electric ranges put the burner knobs on the front edge, where a hip, a bag or a pet can turn one on. In August 2024 Samsung and the CPSC recalled more than 1.1 million of them, about 30 models sold from 2013 to 2024, and Samsung ships free knob locks or covers. That is Samsung's job, not ours. Everything else on those ranges, elements, boards and the oven sensor, is ours.

  • Flex Duo double-oven ranges

Flex Duo is Samsung's one oven that splits into two, with a divider that lets you run the top and bottom at different temperatures. Two cavities means more elements, more sensors and a control board keeping track of both, so an oven that heats on one side and not the other usually points at one of those parts, not at the whole range.

  • Top-load washers made 2011 to 2016

Older Samsung top-loaders are the ones to check: about 2.8 million made from March 2011 to November 2016 were recalled because the top could come away from the cabinet during a spin. Your serial number on the CPSC site tells you whether yours is one of them.

  • Bespoke AI Laundry Combo (all-in-one washer-dryer)

Samsung's all-in-one combo washes and dries a load in one drum, so nothing gets moved between machines. One drum doing two jobs means one machine to open up, and when it washes fine but will not dry, the wash side is not the suspect.

What fails

What actually breaks on Samsung appliances

  1. 1

Ice behind the back panel, a ticking fan and uneven cooling

The evaporator coil and its fan sit behind the rear panel inside the fridge. When the defrost cycle stops clearing the coil, frost packs in until the fan blades tick against it and the cold stops reaching the shelves evenly. On an appliance repair in Vienna, a Samsung refrigerator came to us like this: ice built up behind the rear panel, and the cooling uneven from shelf to shelf. The repair is a full thaw and then whatever stopped the defrost: the heater, the sensor that tells it when to run, or a drain that has iced shut.

  2. 2

Ice maker frozen solid, water dispensing slowly, small cubes

This is the fresh-food-section ice maker on Samsung's French door models. It frosts over, the bucket comes out with a slab in it, water at the door slows to a trickle and the cubes get smaller. Thawing it yourself buys time, not a fix. A lasting Samsung ice maker repair means finding why the compartment lost its seal, and often a new ice maker assembly.

  3. 3

Dryer runs but makes no heat, or needs two cycles for one load

On a Samsung electric dryer the heating element (Samsung part DC47-00019A on many models) lives in a housing you can only reach with the front panel off. When it breaks, the drum turns and the dryer runs a full cycle cold. A blown thermal fuse gives the same symptom, and it usually blows because the vent was choked with lint, so the vent has to be checked too or the new fuse goes the same way. Two cycles for one load with a vent that comes back hot is the airflow version of the same problem.

  4. 4

Drum will not turn, or squeals as it spins

A drum that will not turn while the motor hums is nearly always the drive belt. Our technician went out to a Samsung stacked electric dryer in Great Falls with a drum that would not turn; on stacked units like that, a snapped belt is the common cause. A squeal or a rumble that follows the drum is the idler pulley or the drum bearing at the back, both reached from the front with the panel off. Left alone, a bad bearing can wear a groove into the drum.

  5. 5

Front-load washer leaking, not draining, grinding, or stopping before the spin

Water on the floor at the front is the door boot, the big rubber gasket, which comes out with the whole front panel. A machine that will not drain is usually the drain pump or the filter in front of it, full of coins and hair ties. A grinding roar on spin is the tub bearing, a bigger job. Samsung washers will not spin unless the door or lid is confirmed locked, so a failed lock or latch ends the cycle with a full, wet drum. Codes help: 4C means no water is getting in (a tap, a hose or the inlet screen); UE means the spin was out of balance (one heavy towel, or worn shocks).

  6. 6

Range controls lock out, the oven runs cold, or a burner stays dead

Controls that throw a code and refuse commands are usually the main control board or the membrane keypad on the front. An oven that bakes well below its set temperature with an element that never glows is the bake element along the oven floor, or the oven temperature sensor lying to the board. A gas burner that clicks and never catches is the igniter; an electric surface element that stays cold is the element or the switch behind the knob. On a Samsung gas range the control board, gas valve and convection fan motor are all reached from the back panel, not through the oven.

  7. 7

Dishwasher shows LC, will not drain, or leaves dishes dirty

LC is Samsung's leak code: a moisture sensor in the base pan has found water where it should not be. Sometimes that is a real leak from a hose or the door seal; sometimes it is a splash from an overfull rack or a suds-over, and the code clears once the pan is dry. A dishwasher that will not drain is the drain pump or a blocked hose. One that runs but leaves food on the dishes usually has a clogged spray arm or a tired wash pump.

  8. 8

Microwave shows SE, or runs but does not heat

SE on a Samsung microwave means a key short error: a key on the touchpad is stuck or shorted, and the oven locks out until the keypad or control panel is replaced. A microwave that lights up and hums but leaves the food cold has lost its high-voltage side: the magnetron, the diode, the capacitor, or a thermal fuse that has burned, and on an over-the-range unit those all sit under the top cover. That side stores a charge even unplugged, so it is not a job for a screwdriver and a video.

FAQ

Samsung repair: frequently asked questions

Do you repair Samsung appliances that are still under Samsung's warranty?

We are independent, so a repair Samsung owes you under its own warranty should go through Samsung's service line first; that keeps it free. Once the machine is out of warranty, or Samsung's schedule does not suit you, call us. Our visit fee is $89, the technician gives you the full repair price at your home, and if you go ahead the $89 counts toward the repair.

My Samsung fridge makes a ticking or grinding noise from the back. Is it the compressor?

Usually not. On Samsung fridges that noise is most often the fan behind the rear panel hitting frost, or the ice maker fan grinding on ice. The fix is a thaw plus whatever stopped the defrost cycle. A compressor fault sounds different, a hum or a click at the very bottom back, and the fridge warms up across every section at once.

Can you get parts for an older Samsung?

For most models, yes. Samsung sells genuine parts through its own parts site, and common ones ride on the truck. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you at the visit, order it, and come back to fit it. Every repair, parts and labor, carries a 90-day warranty.

My slide-in range is on the knob recall. Will you install the knob covers?

The knob locks and covers come free from Samsung once you put your serial number into its recall page, and they are shipped to you to fit. We do not need to come out for that. If the range also has a dead element, a cold oven or a control fault, that is what we come out for.

Do you work on the Bespoke and Family Hub models?

Yes. A Bespoke panel color does not change what is behind it for us; the model number does. On a Family Hub the touchscreen is its own system, so a dark screen on a cold fridge and a warm fridge with a working screen are two different repairs. Read us the model number from the sticker, not the color or the screen size.

How soon can you come, and will the repair happen in one visit?

Someone answers the phone 24/7, and we can come the same day most days. You get a 2-hour window and a call about 15 minutes before the technician arrives. If the part is on the truck, the repair happens in that visit; if it has to be ordered, the technician comes back to fit it. You know the full price before anything is done.
