Frigidaire lines we see most
Know your Frigidaire
Frigidaire
The base line and the volume line: top-freezer refrigerators, upright and chest freezers, freestanding gas and electric ranges, dishwashers and top-load laundry. Mechanical dials or simple boards, and parts that have stayed the same for years. These are the easiest Frigidaire units to keep going. Model numbers start with FF.
Frigidaire Gallery
The step-up line, model numbers starting with FG. Gallery wall ovens carry Total Convection with Air Fry, Steam Bake and No Preheat modes; Gallery four-door refrigerators have CrispSeal crispers and a Custom-Flex drawer that switches from fridge to freezer. More touchscreens and boards, so more of what fails is electronic. Most come in Smudge-Proof stainless.
Frigidaire Professional
The pro-look collection at a lower price. Model numbers start with FP. Heavy stainless handles and a commercial look outside; inside, Electrolux-built mechanics like the rest of the family, so parts are no harder to get than for a Gallery unit.
Frigidaire Laundry Center
A washer with a dryer stacked on top in one cabinet, sold in electric and gas versions. You find them in condos and small laundry closets. In July 2023 Electrolux recalled gas models FFLG4033QT and FFLG4033QW because the felt seal on the dryer drum could fold inward and trap lint. If you own one, check the model number on the label.
What fails
What actually breaks on Frigidaire appliances
- 1
Top-freezer fridge: freezer frosts over, fresh-food side goes warm
The freezer still freezes, but the fridge side climbs into the 50s and the back wall of the freezer wears a sheet of ice. That is the defrost system, not the compressor. On Frigidaire top-freezers it is a heater under the evaporator coil, a small defrost thermostat clipped to the coil, and on many models an adaptive defrost control board. One of the three has quit, the coil ices over, and cold air cannot get through to the fridge. If the fan behind the freezer wall is loud or silent, the evaporator fan motor is the other usual suspect.
- 2
Dishwasher will not drain, or will not fill
Two small parts do most of the damage on Frigidaire dishwashers. The float switch is the little dome in the front corner of the tub; when it sticks up, the machine thinks it is full and never fills, and when it sticks down it overfills. The drain pump sits under the sump and catches whatever the filter misses. On a call for dishwasher repair in Arlington, a Frigidaire in Clarendon was not draining, and broken glass jamming the drain pump is what we find most often on these. The other regulars are a door gasket that leaks and a pump motor that has seized outright.
- 3
Gas range: burners click but will not light, or the oven stays cold
The surface burners on a Frigidaire gas range light off a spark module and one electrode per burner. If every burner clicks and none lights, the module or a wet electrode is the usual cause; one dead burner is usually its own electrode. The oven is separate. It uses a glow-bar igniter that has to pull enough current to open the gas safety valve. As the igniter ages it glows but never gets hot enough, so the oven takes minutes to light, then stops lighting at all. When burners and oven quit together, the gas supply or the control is the likelier cause.
- 4
Dryer runs but stays cold, stops early, or squeals
A stacked Frigidaire dryer in McLean was running cold and shutting off before the load was dry. No heat, cycles stopping early and a squeal from the drum cover almost everything we see on these. No heat on an electric model is the heating element, or the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat that protect it; the fuse often blows because of a clogged vent, which is why it pays to clean your dryer vent. Stopping early is usually the cycling thermostat. The squeal is the rear drum bearing or the felt seal around it.
- 5
Oven temperature is off, or the display shows a fault code
Frigidaire ovens run on an electronic oven control board reading a temperature probe inside the cavity. A drifted probe bakes hot or cold; a failed one throws a code and shuts the oven down. Boards fail too, usually a relay that sticks so an element stays on. A bad probe and a bad board look alike from the front panel, and codes vary by model, so this is not one we diagnose over the phone.

Upright freezer frosting up or not holding temperature
Frigidaire's frost-free upright freezers use the same kind of defrost heater, defrost thermostat and evaporator fan as its top-freezer refrigerators. Frost building on the back wall means the defrost side has failed. A manual-defrost upright or chest freezer is simpler: a cold-control thermostat, a start relay on the compressor and a door gasket. A torn gasket alone will frost a freezer solid over a few weeks.

Over-the-range microwave dead, or running without heat
Frigidaire over-the-range microwaves fail the way most do: the door interlock switches wear and the unit goes dead or blows its fuse, or the magnetron and high-voltage diode give out and it hums without heating. The capacitor inside holds a charge after unplugging, so leave the cover on and let our technician open it. Turntable motors and the vent fan are the cheaper, noisier failures.
By appliance
Frigidaire appliances we repair
- Frigidaire refrigerator repair Top-freezers are Frigidaire's bread-and-butter fridge. Defrost heaters, defrost thermostats, adaptive defrost boards and evaporator fans are the parts, and the add-on ice maker quits on its own schedule. Gallery four-door models add boards and a Custom-Flex drawer.
- Frigidaire freezer repair Upright and chest freezers, frost-free and manual defrost. Frost-free uprights fail on the defrost side; manual units fail on gaskets, cold controls and start relays.
- Frigidaire dishwasher repair Plastic-tub base models and stainless-tub Gallery models share the float switch and drain pump that cause most no-fill and no-drain calls. Door gaskets and seized pump motors are next.
- Frigidaire range repair Gas and electric freestanding ranges. Spark modules, electrodes and glow-bar igniters on gas; bake elements, radiant elements and infinite switches on electric; a temperature probe and control board on both.
- Frigidaire oven repair Gallery wall ovens with Total Convection, Air Fry and Steam Bake add a convection fan and more electronics to the usual element, probe and board. Self-clean cycles are hard on the door lock and the thermal fuse.
- Frigidaire cooktop repair Electric radiant, gas and induction cooktops. Radiant elements and their switches, spark modules and electrodes on gas, and power boards on induction. A cracked glass top is a replacement top, not a repair.
- Frigidaire microwave repair Over-the-range models. Door interlock switches, fuses, magnetrons and diodes, plus turntable motors and vent fans. The high-voltage side is not a homeowner job.
- Frigidaire dryer repair Standalone dryers and the dryer half of laundry centers. Heating elements, thermal fuses, high-limit and cycling thermostats, belts, the rear drum bearing, and the felt drum seal that Electrolux recalled on two gas laundry center models in 2023.
- Frigidaire washer repair Top-load and front-load washers and the washer half of laundry centers. Drain pumps jammed by coins and socks, lid switches and door locks, and worn suspension on top loads that lets the tub bang.

FAQ
Frigidaire repair: frequently asked questions
Is FixDaddy an authorized Frigidaire repair service?
No. We are an independent company and Frigidaire has not authorized us. That matters in one case: if your appliance is still inside Frigidaire's own warranty, one year on most units, call Frigidaire so the maker covers the repair. Outside that window, call us.
My Frigidaire top-freezer is warm on top but the freezer is fine. Is the compressor gone?
Almost never. That pattern on a Frigidaire top-freezer is the defrost system: the heater, the defrost thermostat or the adaptive defrost board. The evaporator coil ices over and cold air stops reaching the fridge side. Our visit fee is $89; the technician finds exactly what's wrong and gives you the full repair price at your home, and the $89 counts toward the repair if you go ahead.
The dryer in my stacked Frigidaire laundry center squeals. Can you fix just the dryer?
Yes. The squeal on these is usually the rear drum bearing or the felt seal the drum rides on, and we replace those as part of laundry center repair as well as on standalone dryers. Have the model number handy: gas models FFLG4033QT and FFLG4033QW were recalled in 2023 over that felt seal, and for those two Electrolux offers its own service call, so contact them first.
Do you carry Frigidaire parts on the truck?
The common ones, yes. The parts that fail most on Frigidaire units are ordinary parts, and ordinary parts ride on the truck. Boards, doors, compressors and anything model-specific are ordered, and our technician comes back to fit them. Every repair, whichever part, carries a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty.
My Frigidaire dishwasher won't drain. Is it worth fixing or should I replace it?
On a Frigidaire dishwasher that is usually a drain pump jammed with glass or a float switch that stuck, and both are small repairs on a machine that is otherwise fine. If the pump motor has seized, it is still one part. We do not quote over the phone; our technician looks at it for the $89 visit fee, gives you the full price before doing anything, and you decide.
The oven on my Frigidaire gas range takes ten minutes to light. Why?
The glow-bar igniter is wearing out. It has to draw enough current to open the oven's gas safety valve, and a tired one glows but never gets there, so the oven waits, then lights late, then one day not at all. Replacing the igniter usually fixes it; if it does not, the valve is next, and our technician tests both before changing either.
Do you work on Frigidaire Gallery and Professional, or only the basic line?
All three. They come out of the same Electrolux factories and share most of their parts underneath. Gallery and Professional units have more electronics, so more of the repairs are boards and touch panels, but the approach is the same and so is the 90-day warranty on the work.
