Bosch Appliance Repair in Northern Virginia, DC & Maryland

Bosch builds its appliances differently from most of what sits in kitchens around here, and that changes how they fail: dishwashers that dry by condensation instead of a heating element, 24-inch dryers that never had a vent, refrigerators with two compressors. Our Bosch appliance repair covers dishwashers, compact washers and dryers, refrigerators, wall ovens, ranges and induction cooktops in Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland. Our visit fee is $89, the technician gives you the full repair price at your home, and if you go ahead the $89 counts toward the repair.

  • $89 visit, credited to the repair
  • 90-day parts & labor warranty
  • Same-day most days

Bosch lines we see most

Know your Bosch

  • Dishwashers: 300, 500, 800 and Benchmark Series

24 or 18 inches wide, 46 dBA on the 300 Series down to 39 on Benchmark, no exposed heating element. The 300 dries by condensation (PureDry); the 500 adds AutoAir, which pops the door open at the end to let steam out; the 800 and Benchmark use CrystalDry, a drying unit with its own fan and heater. All have a filter you rinse by hand, an AquaStop float in the base and a door on springs and cables.

  • Compact laundry: 23 1/2-inch washers, condensation and heat pump dryers

Built to stack in a closet, which is why they turn up in so many condos and rowhouses here. The dryers have no vent: the 300 Series condensation dryer cools the damp air on a set of fins and pumps the water away, and the 500 Series heat pump dryer does the same job with a refrigeration loop, cooler and slower. Lint that would leave the house through a vent on a normal dryer stays inside these.

  • Refrigerators: 100, 500, 800 and Benchmark Series

French door, bottom freezer, single-door and built-in models, most counter-depth, some panel-ready. The 800 Series French door runs two compressors, one for the fresh-food side and one for the freezer, with VitaFresh Pro drawers and a filtered water dispenser inside the fridge. Two compressors means two separate sealed systems, which changes how a warm-fridge call is diagnosed.

  • Cooking: wall ovens, 800 Series slide-in ranges and induction cooktops

The 30-inch wall ovens have convection fans, a temperature probe, a telescopic rack and a soft-closing QuietClose door. The 800 Series gas slide-in range adds continuous grates and self-clean. Induction cooktops come in 24, 30 and 36 inches with pan recognition and SpeedBoost; the Benchmark ones use FlexInduction, which joins two zones into one long one for a griddle.

What fails

What actually breaks on Bosch appliances

  1. 1

Dishwasher will not drain, or water comes back up into the sink

The drain pump on a Bosch dishwasher sits under a small cover in the sump, and a shard of glass, a fruit pit or a wedged jar label will stop its impeller. The machine then shows one of the two drain codes, E24 or E25, and leaves water in the tub. In Oakton, a Bosch dishwasher finished every cycle with water still standing in the tub, which is exactly this call. When the pump itself is fine, a clogged filter or the drain hose loop under the sink is usually the reason, and a hose that was never looped high enough lets sink water run back in.

  2. 2

Dishwasher runs for hours and the dishes come out cold and wet

Bosch does not use a separate heating element. The water is heated by a heater built into the circulation pump, one assembly that the parts lists call the circulation pump and heater. When that heater fails, the machine keeps washing and waiting for a temperature it never reaches, so the cycle drags on, nothing gets sanitized and nothing dries. Municipal water in this region is moderately hard, and years of scale on that heater is one reason it gives up. The pump and heater are replaced as one unit.

  3. 3

Dishwasher door drops open with a bang

The door is balanced by a spring on each side, and each spring pulls on a thin cable that runs through the hinge. The cables fray and snap, usually one side first, so the door starts to feel heavy and then falls open the moment you unlatch it. Left alone, the dropping door strains the hinges and the tub lip. We replace the springs and cables as a pair so both sides pull the same.

  4. 4

    Dryer leaves clothes damp

Bosch 24-inch dryers have no vent, so the lint that would normally blow out of the house stays inside them. On the 300 Series condensation dryer it collects on the condenser fins behind a panel at the bottom of the front; on the 500 Series heat pump dryer it packs into the fins of the heat exchanger. Clothes were coming out of a Bosch 300 Series dryer in Georgetown still damp, and on these the condenser is the first place to look. A failed condensate pump, which moves the water out to the drain, or a heater that cuts out are the next two.

  5. 5

Dishwasher stops mid-cycle and the pump will not stop humming

Every Bosch dishwasher has a float in the base pan. If a leak from a hose, the door seal or a cracked sump puts water in that pan, the float lifts, the control locks the machine into drain mode and it hums until it is unplugged. That is the AquaStop protection doing its job. The fix is never the float. It is finding where the water came from, drying the pan and replacing the seal or hose that let it out.

  6. 6

    Dishwasher control panel goes dead

When nothing on the panel responds and the load is left sitting in water, the control module is the usual suspect, but a door latch switch or a wet connector inside the door can do the same thing. The module lives in the door and is specific to the model, so it is an ordered part rather than one on the truck. Before ordering, our technician checks the latch switch and the wiring, because the module is the last part you want to replace on a guess.

  7. 7

Refrigerator warm on the fresh-food side while the freezer stays cold

The 800 Series French door refrigerators run two compressors, one for each side, so the two sides can fail on their own. A fresh-food section creeping up while the freezer holds points at that section's own system: its evaporator fan, an evaporator frosted solid from a defrost fault, or in the worst case that compressor. On Bosch models with a single compressor the same symptom is usually the damper or the fan that moves cold air between the two sections.

  8. 8

Induction cooktop will not recognize the pan, or shuts itself off

Bosch induction cooktops sense the pan before they send any power. If a zone flashes and never heats, the pan is the first suspect: it needs a flat, magnetic base wide enough to cover the zone. A cooktop that heats and then shuts down on its own is usually overheating at the power board underneath, often because the air gap under the counter was blocked when it was installed, or because the fan that cools the board has failed.

FAQ

Bosch repair: frequently asked questions

Why are my dishes still wet at the end of a Bosch cycle?

Because a Bosch dries by condensation, not with a heating element, and plastic rarely comes out fully dry on the PureDry and AutoAir models. Keep the rinse-aid dispenser full and open the door when the cycle ends. If glass and metal are also wet and the tub is cold, the heater built into the circulation pump has likely failed, and that is a repair.

My Bosch dishwasher shows E24 or E25. Can I fix it myself?

Often, yes. Twist out the filter in the floor of the tub and rinse it, then lift the small cover next to it and check the drain pump impeller for glass or a pit. Make sure the drain hose under the sink is not kinked. If the code comes back after that, the pump is on its way out. Our visit fee is $89, and if you go ahead with the repair the $89 counts toward it.

Do you work on the stacked 24-inch Bosch washer and dryer in my condo?

Yes. We repair stacked units and ventless dryers in high-rises across Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland. The dryer usually has to come off the washer to reach the condenser, the condensate pump or the washer's door boot, and our technician puts the stack back together before leaving.

Are you a Bosch authorized service center?

No. FixDaddy is an independent repair company with no affiliation to Bosch or BSH. Bosch sells genuine parts to anyone, so there is nothing an independent shop cannot get, and every repair we do carries our own 90-day parts-and-labor warranty.

Is my Bosch worth repairing, or should I replace it?

That depends on what is wrong, and we will not guess before we have seen it. The technician finds the fault, gives you the full repair price at your home, and you decide with no pressure either way. Bosch parts are easy to get, so most faults on these machines are worth fixing, and the $89 visit fee counts toward the repair if you go ahead.

My Bosch dishwasher hums and will not stop even though it is not running a cycle. What is happening?

There is water in the base pan and the float has locked the machine into drain mode. Unplug it or switch off its breaker so the pump does not run dry all night. Something is leaking into that pan, most often a door seal, a hose or a cracked sump, and the technician needs to find the source rather than just dry the pan.
