Samsung Washer Error Codes: What They Mean
3 min read By FixDaddy DMV Techs Reviewed for accuracy

Samsung washing machines display error codes on the digital panel when the onboard diagnostic system detects a problem. These codes are designed to help you quickly identify what's wrong --- whether it's something you can fix yourself or something that needs a technician. Here's your complete guide to Samsung washer error codes.
How to Reset a Samsung Washer
For any error code, always try a reset first. Press and hold the Start/Pause button for 5 seconds to restart the cycle. If the error persists, power off the washer at the wall outlet, wait 60 seconds, and power it back on. If the code clears and doesn't return, it was a temporary sensor glitch.
Common Samsung Washer Error Codes
4E / 4C --- Water Supply Error
The washer isn't getting enough water or isn't filling within the expected time. Check both supply hoses for kinks. Make sure both hot and cold water valves are fully open. Inspect the mesh filter screens inside the hose connections --- mineral deposits can restrict flow. Clean with a small brush or replace the screens.
5E / 5C --- Drain Error
The washer can't drain water within the expected time. Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs. Clean the pump filter (behind the panel at the bottom front on front-loaders). Confirm the drain hose height is within the recommended range (typically 4--6 inches above the floor, no more than 39 inches total height).
UE / Ub --- Unbalanced Load
The load is too unbalanced for safe high-speed spinning. The washer will attempt to redistribute the load automatically. If it can't, it will stop. Redistribute the clothes manually and restart the spin cycle.
dE1 / dE2 --- Door Error
The door is not properly closed or the door lock has a fault. Check for clothing caught in the door seal. Close the door firmly --- you should hear a click as the lock engages. If the error persists with the door properly closed, the door latch assembly needs replacement.
3E / 3C --- Motor Error
The motor has a fault or is not running at the correct speed. This may be triggered by an overstuffed drum --- try removing some items and restarting. If the error persists with a normal load, the motor or inverter board may need professional inspection.
9E1 / 9C1 --- Power Supply Error
The washer is detecting abnormal voltage. This can be caused by an unstable power supply, an extension cord (never use one with a washer), or a faulty power board. Plug directly into a wall outlet and check that your home's voltage is stable.
HC / HE --- Water Heater Error
The internal water heater has a fault. This affects wash cycles that require heated water. The heating element or temperature sensor typically needs replacement.
Sud / Sd --- Excess Suds
The washer has detected excessive suds. This is usually caused by too much detergent or using non-HE detergent in an HE machine. The washer will run extra rinse cycles to clear the suds. Going forward, use only HE detergent and reduce the amount.
LC / 1LC --- Leakage Error
The leak sensor at the bottom of the machine has detected water. Inspect under and around the machine for visible water. Check door gasket condition, hose connections, and the drain pump area. Address any leak before using the machine again.
