FixDaddy Academy
Learn appliance repair. Free training that ends on real jobs.
We train people who want to become appliance repair technicians, and it costs nothing. A skills check, classes in our warehouse, hands-on practice on real appliances, then real jobs with our technicians in Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland.
- Free, no tuition
- Classes in our warehouse
- Practice on real appliances
- Real jobs with our technicians
How it works
Four steps, from a skills check to your first real job.
The training is tied to the real work from the first day. Nothing is a lecture for its own sake: everything you learn in the warehouse is something you will do in a customer’s kitchen.
- 1
Skills check
First we see what you already know: the tools, the basics of how an appliance works, how you think through a problem. Nobody is expected to know everything on day one.
- 2
Classes in our warehouse
Theory, in plain language. How a washer drains, why a fridge stops cooling, where an oven’s heat goes. Taught by the people who fix these every day.
- 3
Hands on, on real appliances
In the same warehouse you open real machines, find real faults and fix them, with a technician beside you. This is where it clicks.
- 4
Real jobs with our technicians
Then you go out on real jobs in customers’ homes with one of our technicians, and the training turns into the work itself.
What you learn
The appliances we repair every day, and how a visit runs.
You learn on the machines our technicians see most, and you learn the way we work: the price before the work, shoe covers on, the problem explained in plain English.
- Refrigerators and freezers: not cooling, icing up, water on the floor, ice makers
- Washers and dryers: not draining, not spinning, no heat, drum not turning
- Dishwashers: not draining, not cleaning, leaking, dead at start
- Ovens, ranges and cooktops: not heating, uneven bake, igniters, locked controls
- Microwaves, range hoods, wine coolers and garbage disposals
- How a visit runs: the window, finding the fault, the price before the work, explaining it in plain English
Who it is for
Motivated people who want a trade.
You do not need a background in repair. You need to want to learn, to work carefully in people’s homes, and to talk with customers in plain English.
Beginners
You like fixing things and want a trade, but nobody has shown you how an appliance works inside. The Academy starts from the beginning.
Career changers
You have worked in something else and want hands-on work with a clear path. You bring the motivation; we bring the machines and the teaching.
People with some skills already
Electricians, handymen, mechanics, or anyone who has opened a washer at home. The skills check places you where you belong, not at zero.
What it costs
Nothing. The training is free.
No tuition, no fees for the classes or the practice. We train people because we need good technicians.
After the training
It ends on real jobs, with our technicians beside you.
Trainees who do well keep going as FixDaddy technicians. Already experienced? Apply for the technician job instead.

FAQ
Academy questions
Is the training really free?
Yes. You pay nothing for the skills check, the classes or the hands-on practice. We train people because we need good technicians.
Do I need any experience?
No. The Academy is for beginners and career changers. If you already have some skills, the skills check places you further along, not at the start.
Where are the classes?
In our warehouse, where the appliances are. The hands-on part happens there too. We give you the details when we contact you.
How long does it take?
There is no fixed length. It depends on what you already know and how fast you pick it up. The skills check at the start gives us both a picture.
Do I need to speak English?
Enough to explain the problem to a customer in plain words, since the training ends in customers’ homes.
What happens after the training?
The training ends on real jobs with our technicians beside you. Trainees who do well keep going as FixDaddy technicians. Questions: call (888) 811-0088 or email info@fixdaddy.us.
Here for a repair, not training?
Someone answers now. The visit is $89, credited to the repair, and most days we are out the same day.
