Which Frigidaire refrigerators we work on
Frigidaire is an Electrolux brand with three refrigerator lines. The basic Frigidaire line, model numbers starting FF or FR, is mostly top-freezers and side-by-sides such as the FFTR2045VS and the FRSS2623AS. The Gallery Series, GR models such as the GRMC2273CF four-door, adds CrispSeal crispers, and some four-door models add the Custom-Flex temperature drawer, one more zone with its own sensor.
The Professional Series is the column refrigerator and freezer pairs and the PRMC2285AF four-door. Known weak points: defrost systems on top-freezers and side-by-sides, evaporator fan motors that ice up and throw SY EF, ice makers and dispensers on the door-dispenser models, and door bins that go brittle. Many newer models run on R-600a refrigerant, which matters the day the sealed system needs work.
Parts
The Frigidaire parts network is deep and most pieces are stock items: evaporator fan motors, defrost heaters and thermostats, start relays, water inlet valves, ice maker assemblies, door gaskets and the PurePour water and PureAir air filters. We carry the most common of these on the truck; the rest usually arrive within a couple of days and we come back to fit them. Main control boards, dispenser boards and door panels are matched to the model and can take longer. Frigidaire belongs to Electrolux, and some parts fit both brands, so they turn up in Electrolux appliance repair too. Ice makers, dispensers and the water around here
Fairfax Water's own FAQ says the white flecks that turn up in tap-water ice cubes are calcium and magnesium, and the white film on kettles and glassware is the same minerals. The same water feeds a Frigidaire ice maker, and over the years those minerals settle in the inlet valve screen and the fill tube, which is why an ice maker slowly makes smaller, hollow cubes before it stops. Cloudy ice on its own is not a fault, and not a reason to book an ice maker repair.
The filter matters more than people think. Frigidaire counts two PurePour filters as a year's supply, so figure on a change about every six months, and a clogged one cuts the flow to both the dispenser and the ice maker. When a fridge is making thin ice and dispensing slowly, the filter and the valve are the first suspects. A filter that is not seated right can leak or stop the flow altogether.
Under warranty, or repair versus replace
Frigidaire's standard warranty on these fridges is one year on parts and labor. If yours is inside that year, call Frigidaire first; we are an independent repair company, not a Frigidaire service center, so warranty work goes through them.
After the first year the question is usually when to replace a refrigerator and when to repair it, and on a Frigidaire that depends on which part failed. My Frigidaire fridge is warm but the freezer is fine. Is the compressor gone?
Usually not. When the freezer is cold, the compressor is doing its job; the cold is just not reaching the fridge section. On a Frigidaire that is nearly always a defrost fault that has buried the evaporator in frost, a dead evaporator fan or a stuck damper. The display says SY EF. What does that mean?
It is Frigidaire's code for a fault in the evaporator fan circuit: the fan motor, its wiring or the main control board that drives it. Frost around the fan is the usual reason. We test the motor and the board rather than swapping parts on a guess, and if the fan iced up because the defrost system failed, we fix that too or the code comes back.
Do you repair Frigidaire Gallery and Professional models?
Yes, all three lines, as with all our Frigidaire appliance repair: the basic Frigidaire models, the Gallery Series and the Professional Series, including the column refrigerator and freezer pairs and the counter-depth four-door models. Why are my ice cubes cloudy, with white bits in them?
That is the water, not the fridge. Fairfax Water says the white particles in tap-water ice are calcium and magnesium that end up in the middle of the cube as it freezes from the outside in. Cloudy cubes are harmless. Small, hollow or misshapen cubes are a different story; that usually means the water valve or the filter is restricting the fill, and we check both.
