Samsung Dryer Error Codes: What They Mean

Samsung dryers use a comprehensive diagnostic system that displays error codes when something isn't operating within normal parameters. Understanding what these codes mean can help you quickly decide whether you're dealing with a simple fix or a problem that needs a technician. Here's your complete guide.

How to Reset a Samsung Dryer

Before acting on any error code, power cycle the dryer: press and hold the Start button for 5 seconds, or unplug the dryer for 60 seconds. Many codes are triggered by transient sensor readings and clear after a reset. If the code returns on the next cycle, proceed with diagnosis.

Common Samsung Dryer Error Codes

HC / HE --- High Heat Error

The dryer is overheating. This is almost always caused by restricted exhaust airflow --- a clogged lint screen, blocked duct, or a vent cap that isn't opening. Address the vent system before running the dryer again. If airflow is clear and the code persists, the thermistor or heating element may be faulty.

Et --- Thermistor Error

The temperature sensor (thermistor) has failed or is reading outside normal range. The dryer can't accurately monitor drum temperature, which prevents proper heat regulation. Thermistor replacement is typically a straightforward repair.

dF / dO --- Door Switch Error

The door switch is not detecting that the door is properly closed. Check for clothing caught in the door, then close it firmly. If the code persists with the door clearly closed, the door switch or latch assembly needs replacement.

bE / bC2 --- Button Error

A button on the control panel is stuck or continuously pressed. Check for any object pressing against the panel, and inspect buttons for sticking. If the panel appears fine, the user interface board may be faulty.

AC --- Communication Error

The main control board and another board (such as the display or motor control board) have lost communication. Try a power reset. If the code persists, check wiring harness connections between the boards.

FE --- Frequency Error

The dryer is detecting an abnormal power supply frequency. This is uncommon in the US but can be triggered by voltage instability. Confirm the dryer is on a dedicated circuit with no other major appliances sharing the breaker.

tS / t5 --- Temperature Sensor Error

The drum temperature sensor is reading abnormally. On Samsung dryers this often relates to the exhaust temperature sensor. Check for vent blockage first. If clear, test the sensor for continuity.

Clg --- Clogged Vent

Samsung's vent blockage warning. Similar to LG's d80/d90/d95 series, this is not a part failure --- it's a vent restriction alert. Clean the lint screen and have the exhaust duct inspected and cleaned.

3C --- Motor Error

The motor is experiencing a fault --- it may be overloaded, not reaching correct speed, or failing. Check for an overloaded drum first. If the drum is normally loaded and the error persists, the motor or its control board needs professional diagnosis.
