The parts that fail on Samsung dryers are a short list, standard across the 27-inch models: the heating element (DC47-00019A, alone or inside the DC97-14486A heater assembly with its high-limit thermostat DC47-00018A and thermal cut-off DC96-00887A), the blower-housing thermal fuse DC47-00016A, the thermistor DC32-00007A, the belt 6602-001655, the idler pulley DC93-00634A and the drum rollers DC97-16782A. The big national parts houses stock them. These are the common parts, and common parts are carried on the truck. When a Samsung dryer sits on top of its washer in a closet, Samsung asks for one inch of clearance at the sides and top, four inches behind for the duct, and 72 square inches of air openings on a closet door. A closet with none of that runs hot, and hot is behind the hE codes and opened cut-offs above.

Virginia's residential code caps the exhaust run at 35 feet of 4-inch smooth metal duct, and every fitting shortens that: a mitered 90-degree elbow counts as 5 feet, a smooth-radius one under 2. The flexible transition hose behind the dryer may be 8 feet at most and never buried in the wall; Samsung adds that the duct must be rigid metal, not plastic. Two more things before you buy or move one. Samsung electric dryers ship without a power cord, and a house built before 2000 probably has the older 3-prong outlet, so the cord has to match. In a high-rise with no duct at all, the 24-inch heat-pump models are the ventless option, and ventless dryer repair is on our list like any other.

Samsung dryers speak in codes, and the code saves time on the phone. hE and HC mean too hot, not no heat. tS, tC, tE and tO are the temperature sensor. dC, dE and dF are the door. bE is a button held down, often by something leaning on the panel. 9C1 and 9E1 are voltage at the outlet.

AC, AE and Et mean the boards inside cannot talk to each other; Samsung's own advice is to switch the dryer off for 60 seconds first, and that clears some of them. Clg, C80, C90 and Ct are results of the Vent Blockage test on models with the Vent Sensor. CL is Child Lock and dn is a firmware download, and neither is a fault.

Two lights confuse everyone. The Filter Reminder comes on after every load whether the screen is clean or not; Samsung built it as a nudge. The Vent Check icon is different: it lights when the duct is about 60 percent blocked, and that one deserves a call. Newer models also have Smart Care, which reads the flashing code with your phone camera.

When you call, have the code and the model number ready. On a front-loader the label is around the door opening, and on the back of the unit if not.
