Independent repair
GE refrigerators come in four families, and the faults follow the family more than the age. Plain GE top-freezers and side-by-sides are simple boxes; GE Profile and Café French doors add inverter compressors, twin evaporators and a fill tube that likes to freeze; Monogram built-ins are a job of their own. FixDaddy does GE refrigerator repair on all of them across Northern Virginia, Washington DC and the Maryland suburbs, in Vienna and Arlington as much as in Bethesda and Rockville.

Models and series
The first letter of the model number is the family: G for GE (GFE and GNE French doors, GSS side-by-sides, GTS top-freezers), P for GE Profile (PFE, PYE, PJE), C for Café (CFE, CYE), Z for Monogram (ZISS built-ins). Weak points by family: the 2000s electronic GE models live or die by their main control board; Profile and Café French doors add an inverter compressor with its drive board, TwinChill dual evaporators and an ice maker fill tube that can freeze; and six GE French-door models built February 2020 to August 2021 (GFE26 and GNE27 series) were recalled in 2022 because the freezer drawer handle could detach. GE fixes that one free.
The GE parts that fail most are the ones we keep on the truck: evaporator fan motors, defrost heaters and thermostats, water inlet valves, door gaskets and common control boards. Ice maker assemblies, inverter boards and dispenser parts are ordered by model and serial number. GE Appliances sells its own parts and distributors stock the current lines, so a second visit is usually a matter of days. Early-2000s boards are the exception; some carry a newer part number and a few are no longer made, and we tell you that before you commit. Sealed-system parts, a compressor, filter drier and the R600a charge, take longer and are the one repair we weigh against the age of the fridge.
On a GE fridge the tag is inside the fresh food section on the left or right wall near the top, or inside the freezer on a side wall on bottom-freezer models. Newer tags carry a QR code. The serial number starts with two letters: the first is the month it was built, the second the year, and the year letters repeat about every twelve years, so a tag reading GA means April 2001 or April 2013 and the fridge's condition tells you which.
Read both numbers to us when you book. The model number sets which control board, fan and ice maker your fridge takes, and GE has used several generations of each, so having it in advance is how the right part ends up on the truck for the first visit.
GE Profile and Café French doors, and some Monogram models, use TwinChill, two separate evaporators so the freezer stays dry and the fresh food side stays humid. It works, but it means two coils and two fans to check, and a fresh-food side that can fail on its own while the freezer is perfect.
Those same models run an inverter compressor. Instead of a start relay, a drive board tells the compressor what speed to run, so a dead compressor is now a three-way question between board, inverter and compressor.
Newer GE fridges also use R600a, isobutane, in a charge of just a few ounces at low pressure. That makes leaks harder to find by gauge alone and changes how a sealed system is opened and closed. On a GE French-door refrigerator in Vienna, one of our recent refrigerator repairs, cooling had failed because of the refrigerant side, and our technician repaired it.

FAQ
Almost never. If the freezer is cold, the compressor and the refrigerant are doing their job. The cold is just not reaching the fresh food side. A warm fridge with a cold freezer on a GE means the evaporator fan, the damper, or a coil iced over from a defrost failure. Those are repairs, not replacements, and the technician finds which one it is at your home.
Yes. All four families come out of GE Appliances and share a lot of parts. Profile and Café bring inverter compressors and the TwinChill layout, which our technicians know their way around. Monogram built-ins take longer to open up and their parts are ordered by serial number, so give us the tag details when you book.
Our visit fee is $89. The technician finds exactly what's wrong and gives you the full repair price at your home — no pressure. If you go ahead, the $89 counts toward the repair, and every repair has a 90-day warranty. We never quote a repair price before we have seen the fridge, because a warm GE fridge can be a fan motor or a sealed system, and those are nowhere near the same job.
Often, yes. GE's 2000s side-by-sides and bottom-freezers are simple to work on and most of their parts are still made. The question is what failed. A fan, a heater, a valve or a board on an older fridge is a sensible repair. A compressor or a refrigerant leak on the same fridge is where we stop and talk it through with you, and the $89 visit gets you that honest answer either way.
Most days, yes. Someone answers the phone 24/7, we book 2-hour arrival windows, and the technician calls about 15 minutes before arriving. If your GE fridge has stopped cooling, keep the doors shut and move anything that must stay frozen to a cooler with ice until we get there.
Parts and labor on the repair we did, for 90 days. If the new evaporator fan or control board fails inside that window, we come back and make it right. It does not cover a different part failing later, which on an older GE fridge can happen, and the technician will tell you at the visit if something else looks close to the end.
No. Leave it running so the technician can see the fault as it happens: which fans spin, whether the compressor starts, where the frost is. If the freezer is iced over, a few hours unplugged can hide the evidence. The one exception is water on the floor, where turning off the supply valve behind the fridge is the right move.
Someone answers now. The visit is $89, credited to the repair, and most days we are out the same day.
