Models and series
Which GE dishwashers we work on
We work on every GE Appliances dishwasher line: GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram. That includes built-in models with the buttons on the front of the door, and models with the controls hidden along the top edge, which you only see with the door open.
The model number tells you which line you have and decides which parts fit. Open the door and look for a label on the left or right front inside edge of the tub, or on the right side edge of the door. Some newer labels also carry a QR code. GE-branded models usually start with GDF (front controls) or GDT (top controls), GE Profile with PDT, Café with CDT and Monogram with ZDT. Have the model number handy when you call.
Parts
The parts that wear out on GE dishwashers are the drain pump, the water inlet valve, the door latch, the door springs and their cables, the heating element, the door gasket and the control board. The truck carries the common ones. A part the truck does not carry gets ordered for your model, and we book a second visit to fit it once it arrives.
Three things to check before you call
The filter. Take out the bottom rack, twist the Ultra Fine filter counterclockwise and lift it out, then rinse it in warm soapy water with a sponge, not a brush or a scouring pad. A clogged filter causes both standing water and dirty dishes. Not every GE has this filter; your owner's manual shows yours.
The garbage disposal. If the dishwasher drains through a disposal, run the disposal first. A jammed or clogged one backs water up into the dishwasher, and our garbage disposal repair covers that too. If the disposal is new, make sure its drain plug was knocked out when it went in.
The control lock. When the Lock Controls light is on, the dishwasher will not start a cycle. Unlocking differs by model: on many newer ones you hold one pad, or two pads together, for three seconds, and the owner's manual names which. Try that before deciding the control board has failed.
Repair it or replace it?
Most of the faults above come down to one part: a pump, a valve, a latch, a spring or a heating element. On a GE dishwasher that is otherwise sound, that is worth fixing. A new one is the better buy when the tub itself is cracked, when the repair comes to more than half of what a new dishwasher costs, or when an older machine needs both a control board and a pump.
