Kenmore washer repair in Vienna
A Kenmore front-load washer in Vienna made a grinding noise that got louder at the start of every spin cycle. Our technician traced it to a worn drum bearing.

Independent repair
Kenmore never built a washer. Sears put the name on machines made by Whirlpool, LG or Frigidaire, and the first three digits of your model number say which one. That matters, because a Kenmore direct-drive top-loader from 2005 and a Kenmore Elite front-loader with a 796 model number have almost nothing in common inside. Our Kenmore washer repair covers all of them across Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland, and the $89 visit fee is credited toward the repair if you go ahead.

Models and series
The 110 machines, built by Whirlpool for Sears, are the majority, because Whirlpool built most Kenmore laundry: the direct-drive top-loaders made before 2007, the belt-drive top-loaders with six status lights sold from late 2010, the Oasis (a Whirlpool Cabrio) and the HE3t, HE4t and Elite HE3/HE4 front-loaders, which are Whirlpool Duets.
Their weak points, in that order: the motor coupler and lid switch; the shifter, lid lock and suspension rods; the rotor position sensor plug and the tub bearings; and the drum bearings, the drain pump and the CCU, plus drum-seam corrosion on some HE3t stainless drums. The 796 front-loaders are LG machines with LG's direct-drive motor, where a failing hall sensor usually brings up LE and OE points at the drain pump. The 417 front-loaders are Frigidaire-built entry models whose door boot is a notoriously awkward change.
Because Sears never built the machine, the part is always the maker's part: the ones we use for Whirlpool washer repair on a 110 model, LG's for a 796, Frigidaire's for a 417. Common parts are carried on the truck, and for a Kenmore that means lid switches, couplers, agitator dogs, drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves, belts and shifters. Bearings, a tub assembly, a gearcase, a stator or a control board are ordered, and the technician returns to fit them. Kenmore-labeled parts are still sold through Sears PartsDirect, so age alone does not make a Kenmore unrepairable. If a part for your model no longer exists, the technician tells you at the visit.
Every Kenmore model number starts with three digits, then a period, then the rest. Sears called that prefix the source code, and it names the factory: 110 is Whirlpool, 796 is LG, 417 is Frigidaire, and our Kenmore appliance repair page lists the prefixes for other appliances.
It decides the repair. A direct-drive top-loader has a motor coupler underneath it; a Duet-family front-loader has a drum on bearings and a central control unit; a 796 has an LG motor with a hall sensor and no belt at all, the design on our LG washer repair page. Read us the whole number when you call, period included, and our technician arrives knowing which machine is waiting.
The Kenmore name now belongs to Transformco. Kenmore appliances, washers included, are still sold through Amazon, Lowe's, Target and kenmore.com, Sears PartsDirect still sells the parts, and because the machine is really a Whirlpool, an LG or a Frigidaire, the part is theirs, not a Sears-only part.
So the question is never whether a Kenmore can be fixed. It is whether this one should be. Our technician finds exactly what is wrong and gives you the full repair price at your home, no pressure; if you go ahead, the $89 visit fee counts toward the repair, and every repair carries a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty. If the drum bearings have gone on a fifteen-year-old front-loader, we say so and let you decide.
Someone answers the phone 24/7, and most days we can come the same day. You get a 2-hour window and a call about 15 minutes before the technician arrives, in a FixDaddy uniform, with shoe covers and floor protection for the laundry room. Before anything is touched, the problem is explained in plain English: which part, why it failed, what the repair costs. Then you decide.
Common parts are on the truck, so a washer repair that needs a lid switch, a pump or a door lock is often done on the spot. If your Kenmore needs a tub assembly or a control board, we order it and come back. Our technicians have five to ten years of experience in appliance repair. Payment is on completion, and the invoice comes by email or text.

FAQ
Look at the model number on the machine. The first three digits, before the period, name the maker: 110 is Whirlpool, 796 is LG, 417 is Frigidaire. Whirlpool built most Kenmore laundry, so most Kenmore washers are 110s, which is to say Whirlpool machines with a Sears badge.
Usually, yes. The brand belongs to Transformco now, parts are still sold, and the machine itself is a Whirlpool, an LG or a Frigidaire design. Our technician finds exactly what is wrong and gives you the full repair price at your home, no pressure. If you go ahead, the $89 counts toward the repair; if you decide the machine is not worth it, you have paid $89 to know that for certain.
Very likely, on a Duet-family HE3t, HE4t or Elite HE3 and HE4, and on the Oasis top-loader too. The bearings sit in the outer tub, so it is a big job, and on an old machine it is sometimes the point where replacing makes more sense. We tell you which at the visit, with the price, and the choice is yours.
The common ones, yes: lid switches, couplers, agitator dogs, drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves, belts and shifters. Because the machine was built by Whirlpool, LG or Frigidaire, those are the same parts that fit the maker's own models. Bearings, tubs, gearcases and control boards are ordered, and the technician returns to fit them. Every repair, on the spot or on the return visit, has a 90-day parts-and-labor warranty.
Most days, yes. Someone answers the phone 24/7, you get a 2-hour arrival window, and the technician calls about 15 minutes before arriving. Read us the full model number from the sticker when you call, so we know which Kenmore we are coming to.
It is a motor fault, and the usual cause is a poor connection at the rotor position sensor under the tub, not a dead motor. Our technician reseats and checks that plug first; if the code comes back, the control board is the next suspect, and Whirlpool issued a less sensitive board for exactly this. Either way you hear the price at your home before anything is ordered.
Someone answers now. The visit is $89, credited to the repair, and most days we are out the same day.
