Models and series
Which LG washers we work on
LG sells four kinds of washer. Front-loaders carry WM model numbers (WM3xxx up to WM6xxx), with TurboWash 360 and ezDispense. Top-loaders carry WT numbers, up to 5.5 cubic feet, in agitator and impeller versions with the glass lid. The WashTower (WKEX200 series) is one body: washer below, dryer above, one set of controls between them. The LG WashCombo (WM6998HBA) washes and dries in a single 5.0 cubic foot drum with a ventless heat pump.
Weak points. Front-loaders: the drain pump and its coin trap, the door boot, the rotor sensor behind the LE code, and on older machines the tub seal and bearing. Top-loaders: balance. The WT4xxx generation got a reputation for stopping mid-cycle on UE, and the complaint still comes in. The WashTower runs both halves on one control system, so the washer is diagnosed with the LG dryer above it in mind.
Parts
The parts that fail on LG washers are mostly the same handful across many WM and WT models: drain pumps, door boots, door lock assemblies, inlet valves, rotor position sensors, shock absorbers and suspension rods. Those are stocked by the distributors we buy from, so the technician often has them on the truck or can have them within a few days. Tub seals and bearings and control boards are ordered by exact model number, and for a discontinued line that can take longer. Whatever the wait, you hear it at your home along with the full price, and the $89 visit fee counts toward the repair if you go ahead.
What we check before we replace anything on an LG
Three things cause a surprising share of LG washer calls, and none of them is a broken part. The first is the drain pump filter behind the small panel at the lower front. LG's own advice is to clean it monthly; almost nobody does, and a coin trap full of lint slows draining, trips OE, and eventually kills the pump. The second is detergent.
LG front-loaders want a small dose of HE detergent, and too much of it makes suds the control cannot read, which shows up as slow drains, foam from the drum vent, or an LE code with nothing wrong with the motor. The third is the floor. A washer that has walked, or sits on a foot that has wound itself down, will bang and stop on UE no matter how good its suspension is.
So the visit starts there: filter, dose, level, shipping bolts. That order means you are not paying for a sensor when the fix was a teaspoon less detergent.

My LG washer says OE. Can I clear it myself before calling?
Often, yes. Unplug it, open the small panel at the lower front, drain the little hose into a pan, and turn the filter out counter-clockwise. If it is full of lint and coins, clean it, put it back, and try a spin. If the filter is clean and the washer still will not drain, the pump or the hose is the problem and that is the visit.
What does the LE code mean on an LG washer?
